Acupressure
Acupressure is a traditional Chinese medicine bodywork technique based on the same ideas as acupuncture. It involves placing physical pressure, by hand, elbow, or with the aid of various devices, on different pressure points on the surface of the body to bring about relief through greater balance and circulation of fluids and metabolic energies in the body. It is intended to help balance the systems of the body in order to treat chronic and acute injuries or disease.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the Ancient Chinese practice of using fine needles on specific points of the body to clear blocked channels of energy. This eases many aches and pains and promotes the balance necessary for good health.
Affusion
Hydrotherapy treatment when liquid is poured onto a part of the body.
Algae
Algae are marine-based products which are rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Applications include crèmes, beauty packs or baths. The Anti-cellulite massage stimulates the blood vessels in the skin. This clears out the lymph cells of the toxic fatty deposits, which cause the appearance of the 'orange peel' look. The massage can take from 30 - 45 minutes.
Aroma Grotto
The moist, warm climate in the Aroma Grotto gently but thoroughly cleanses the skin and respiratory tract. The circulation is stimulated, muscle tension relaxed, stress is reduced, limbs and joint pains relieved. Natural herbal steam can additionally support the cleaning effect. Temperature is approximately 45°C and the suggested stay is by 10-20 minutes.

Aromatherapy Massage

Ayurveda

Ayurvedic Kalari Massage
This method works primary to stimulate, relax and balance the whole body-mind continuum alleviating many complaints such as muscle pain, headaches and digestive disorders, structural problems, spinal difficulties such as shoulder and neck pain. Treatments involves the generous use of special oils and a thorough and rhythmic process of tracing, kneading, stretching and twisting manipulations.
Balneotherapy
General term for water treatments that use hot springs, mineral water or seawater to restore and revitalise the body and ease stress and pain.
Bio-Sauna
Bio-Sauna is somewhat gentler to its patients. With a temperature of approximately 60˚C and a high humidity level of approximately 40%, the development of perspiration and therefore the purification of the body, is achieved without putting pressure on the bodys circulatory systems.
Body Scrub
An abrasive exfoliating body treatment using products such as salt, sugar, seeds or herbs to remove dry, dead skin cells, soften the skin and boost blood circulation. Also known as body polish.
Body- Wrap
Treatment in which substances such as seaweed, mud or even chocolate are smoothed over the body in the form of a paste. The body is then cocooned in towels, foil, cling film and sometimes kept under a heated blanket to detoxify the system and hydrate the skin. Body wraps promise to tighten your skin, eliminate toxins, treat eczema, and even lose you six inches after a single session.
Caldarium
Caldarium, the interplay of heat and moisture stimulates the circulation and thoroughly and gently cleans the skin and respiratory tract. Muscular tension relaxes, stress is reduced, limbs and joint pains are eased. The Caldarium is a mild, but effective means of relieving stress and helping regeneration. Temperature is approximately 45 °C.

Cleopatra bath
The aggression to which our skin is exposed, as the quintessential contact organ, is ever increasing. More and more people therefore attach importance to specific and natural skin care. Couples Treatment
A treatment, which is carried out simultaneously on two people by two therapists working in a Couples Treatment Room, especially prepared with two treatment beds to enable couples to share the spa experience together.
Deep muscle relaxation
The PMR procedure teaches you to relax your muscles through a two-step process. First you deliberately apply tension to certain muscle groups, and then you stop the tension and turn your attention to noticing how the muscles relax as the tension flows away.
Dead Sea Mud
Application of mineral-rich mud from the Dead Sea, to detoxify the body and relieve rheumatic and arthritic pain.
Doshas
According to Indian Ayurveda, the five elements of water, fire, air, earth and ether are believed to combine in pairs to form the doshas.
Dry Flotation
A treatment in which you float on a ‘waterbed' so that your body is relieved of tension and stress, but you will not get wet as you are separated from the water by a rubber mattress. Can be combined with a body mask or warm oil treatment.
Essences
Oils extracted from plants and flowers that have specific characteristics, which determine their use - they can be stimulating or relaxing or even anti-bacterial and healing. Usually inhaled or used in treatments, such as massages, where they are absorbed into the skin. They work on an emotional level, harmonizing negative feelings and belief patterns, held in the subconscious mind.
Exfoliation
Removal of dry, dead skin cells and impurities using products such as salt or herbs or by techniques such as dry brushing. Also known as scrub or polish.
Facial
A treatment to cleanse, tone and moisturize the complexion using products that best suit a specific skin type. May include exfoliation, the application of masks, and massage to face, décolleté and even hands and arms. Anti-ageing procedures, such as faradic muscle stimulation can sometimes be included.
Facial Mask
A product or paste is applied to the face and left on for a period of time to cleanse pores, hydrate the skin and exfoliate dead skin cells. Can be formulated to suit skin types.
Facial Scrub
Gently abrasive creams are used to remove dry, dead skin cells and boost lymphatic drainage and blood circulation. Leaves skin clean and glowing and improves fine lines.

Floatation Therapy

Floatation Tank/Sensory Deprivation tank /Isolation Tank
An enclosed tank, without external sensations and stimuli, to aid the relaxation process of floating by providing a deep feeling of sensory awareness. May be done in complete silence and darkness or with music and videos.
Foot Massage/Foot Reflexology
The great number of nerves ending in the feet connect to virtually every organ in the body. By applying pressure to specific points on the feet it is possible to effect the functioning all the body's organs.
Foot massage / reflexology can thus be a potent healing modality in its own right , or when used in conjunction with other therapies.

Full body massage

Herbal Room

Hydrotherapy Bath

Indian Head Massage
Indian Head Massage is an ancient Hindu massage to the head, neck and shoulders, which is not only therapeutic and relaxing, but, with the use of certain oils, can also help to promote hair growth.
Jacuzzi
Tub or pool of hot water, with massage jets of air from small holes at the base and sides of the pool. Also known as Whirlpool.
Kapha
In Ayurveda, one of the three doshas. Kapha types are typically large-sized and stable. Believed to be made up of the elements of water and earth.
Kneipp bath
Kneipp bath is suitable for hardening and vitalising the body and is therefore also to be very much recommended during convalescence. The metabolism and the removal of waste materials are stimulated and the immune system is strengthened.
Regular Kneipp baths counteract disturbances of the autonomic nervous system as well as "civilization" ailments of all types. Especially in Winter, this long-standing alternating bath is an excellent method for warding off colds and flu.
Kneipp Kur
Treatments combining: hydrotherapy, herbology and natural foods for physical and emotional well-being. Developed in Germany by Sebastian Kneipp in the mid 1800s. Popular in Austria, Switzerland and Germany.

Lomi Lomi Massage
Lomi Lomi Massage has been practiced throughout the Pacific for thousands of years.
"The distinctive movement of traditional Lomi Lomi is a kneading motion towards the heart, with thumbs, palms, or forearms. It also has a rhythm and employs the full range of massage movements, including effleurage, petrissage, friction, vibration, percussion, and kneading. Every area is also soothed with long sliding strokes. It's a massage that's both vigorous and soothing.
Lymphatic Drainage
Lymphatic Drainage is a special type of massage, using specific pressure, which stimulates the lymph system to remove waste and build the body's defences. Recommended to help many conditions, including: Cellulite, water retention (swollen ankles, bags under the eyes, etc), constipation, migraine and sinus problems - as well as many more.
Manicure
Hands are soaked and exfoliated to remove dead skin cells, cuticles are groomed and nails trimmed and shaped. They are then buffed to a shine and/or coated with a polish. Could also include hand and arm massage and warm wax treatment to soften the skin.
Marma Points
In Ayurveda, the body's vital energy points. It is believed that the dysfunction of any of these points leads to illness.
Meditation
Method of deep breathing and concentration. During meditation, breathing, brain activity and heart and pulse rates slow, thus encouraging the body to relax and achieve a greater sense of inner balance and peace. Relieves stress and pain and reduces blood pressure.
Meridians
Pathways or channels through which vital energy is circulated through the body. It is believed that all illnesses are a result of an energy imbalance.
Mineral Bath
The bath is taken in mineral water with a high content of CO2, mineral salts and humic acids at the temperature 28-34 C. Carbon dioxide is absorbed by the skin, it increases the rate of blood circulation, positively affects heart and kidney activity.

Mudpacks
The nature cure practitioners at present are making increasing use of moistened earth in the treatment of diseases. The use of mudpacks has been found highly beneficial and effective in the treatment of chronic inflammations caused by internal diseases, bruises, sprains, boils and wounds.
This mode of treatment is normally adopted in conjunction with a proper scheme of dietary and other natural therapies. The advantage of mud treatment is that it is able to retain moisture and coolness for longer periods than cold water packs or compresses.
The cold moisture in the mudpacks relaxes the pores of the skin, draws the blood into the surface, relieves inner congestion and pain, and promotes heat radiation and elimination of morbid matter.

Oxygen treatment
This is a regenerative oxygen treatment, which in combination with antioxidants and body exercise helps the organism to remove free oxygen radicals which, when accumulated, causes premature ageing of cells and a number of disorders. One method of Prof. Ardenne, who developed an apparatus, which can add into the organism pure oxygen and therefore the effect of the oxygen treatment will last along time. It improves oxidation of tissues and organs, physical as well as mental efficiency, heart activity and elasticity of lung tissue.
Parafango
A mixture of paraffin and mud from North Italian volcanic lakes, is used for the cosmetic treatment of cellulites.
Pedal bath
Pedal bath, as an alternative footbath, is also a part of the water treatment of Kneipp's type. It is active movement (pedalling) in small tubs with hot and cold water level 20-25 cm.
Pedicure
Treatment to beautify the feet and toenails. Feet are soaked and exfoliated with a scrub to remove dead skin cells, cuticles are groomed and nails trimmed and shaped. Nails may be buffed to a shine or coated with polish. May include a foot and calf massage.
Pitta
In Ayurveda, one of the three doshas. Pitta types are typically medium built and driven. Pitta is said to be made up of the elements water and fire.
Pilates
Exercise comprising slow, precise movements with coordinated breathing techniques and special exercise equipment. It aims to engage the body and mind and increase flexibility and strength and helps the body strengthen some types of illness or surgery.
Power Yoga
Power Yoga (or Astanga) is considered to be the most physically demanding form of yoga. It requires and builds on stamina, physical strength, flexibility and controlled breathing. Not recommended for beginners.

Qi
Vital energy, or life force of the universe and the body. Also known as Chi (Chinese), Ki (Japanese) and Prana (Indian).
Qi Gong
Chinese physical exercise of working with, or mastering, Qi. Uses breathing and body movement to help develop a powerful Qi.
Reflexology
Application of finger-point pressure to reflex zones on the feet, and also hands and ears - to re-establish the flow of energy through the body. Its underlying theory is that specific areas on the feet, hands and ears correspond with specific body parts, organs and glands and that the manipulation of those areas can bring about change associated with the corresponding parts.
Reiki
Healing technique based on ancient Tibetan teachings. The practitioner s place their palms over, or on, various areas of the body for a few moments to energise and balance the body, mind and spirit. Helps to treat both physical and emotional problems.
Roman Bath
Historically a series of rooms and pools of different temperatures that ancient Romans bathed and socialised in. Today it is used to refer to whirlpool bathing areas with benches for more than one person.
Sauna
Dry heat in a wood-lined treatment room or cabin. The heat causes sweating which helps to cleanse the body of impurities and relax the muscles, boosts circulation and refreshes the body. A Finnish sauna includes the use of birch twigs to tap the body, thus boosting circulation. Regular visits to the sauna are an ideal anti-stress programme and promote the decontamination and purging of the body. The interplay of hot and cold stimulates the physical functions, especially the blood circulation and irrigation.
Moreover, the body's own resistance is mobilised, the heartbeat stimulated and the blood pressure positively influenced. Temperature is around 80-100°C.
Scrub
Skin exfoliation refers to the process of removing dead skin cells to allow newer, healthier skin cells to become more visible. While skin exfoliation is a naturally occurring process, most skin types can stand some help. Oily skin tends to saturate dead skin cells and makes it difficult for these dead cells to fall off naturally.
Dry skin tends to let dead skin cells accumulate too quickly which can make skin look dry and dull. Most people's skin falls somewhere between these two skin types, but unless you have perfectly balanced skin some type of skin exfoliation can be very helpful.

Seaweed Extracts are marine plants rich in vitamins and minerals. They are used for crèmes, packs and baths.
Shiatsu Massage
Shiatsu Massage is an ancient Japanese pressure massage, where the practitioner uses fingers, hands, feet, elbows and knees to stretch out your body in order to release energy and create wellbeing. Benefits are calming and relaxing.
Shirodhara
Ayurvedic treatment in which warmed, medicated oil is dripped steadily on the forehead. Relieves tension and calms the mind.

Sports Massage
Deep tissue massage directed at muscles used in athletic activities. Before exercise it helps to prevent pain and injury; after exercise it helps remove lactic acid and restore muscle tone and range of movement.
Steaming
Use of hot steam - often infused with essential oils or herbs ¬to relax the body, soften the skin, open the pores and prepare the face or body for treatment.
Steam Room
Tiled room with benches in which steam is generated at high pressure and temperature to open pores, and eliminate toxins. Can be infused with the aroma of essential oils. Increase your body's temperature and stimulate the immune system whilst the relaxing and soothing heat eases your stress and tensions away!
Stone Massage
The use of warmed and chilled stones to massage the body using long strokes, facilitated by oils. Also known as stone therapy, hot stone therapy or warm stone therapy.
Swedish massage
Swedish massage is the most commonly offered and best known type of massage. It uses a firm but gentle pressue to improve the circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility and create relaxation.
The therapist generally uses massage oil to facilitate making long, smooth strokes over the body.
T'ai Chi
Graceful movements that combine mental concentration with deep, controlled breathing and balance. Regular practice brings about relaxation and good health.
Thai Massage
Thai Massage uses passive stretching and gentle pressure along the body's energy lines to increase flexibility, relieve muscle and joint tension and balance the body's energy systems. It is both deeply relaxing and energizing. Thai massage takes place on a futon mat on the floor, and you wear loose fitting clothing.
You start by laying on your back, and the therapist uses gentle compression and stretching techniques to open up your body, beginning with you legs. The massage is oil free.
Thalasso
Thalasso - Energy from the sea. The basic thought of Thalasso therapy is prophylaxis and treatment of civilization illnesses like troubles with the joints and the spinal column, rheumatic troubles, heart and circulation debilities, states of exhaustion, sport injuries and metabolic disorders. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Turkish bath
Turkish bath is carried out in a special cubicle. During this procedure there is combined an effect of hot dry air, following by cooling down and a massage with gentle water jets.
Underwater massage
Underwater massage, the client lies relaxed in a large tub of warm water. A stream of water under pressure, (ranging from 0.5 to a maximum of 7.0 bar absolute pressure units), is applied by means of a hose that has interchangeable nozzles.
The water needed for the massage is drawn from the tub and returned under pressure through the hose. The high-pressure stream of water is created by an internal pump.
Vata
In Ayurveda, one of the three doshas. Vata types are typically thin and highly-strung. Vata is believed to be made up of the elements air and ether.
Vichy Shower
A spray of water from five micro-jets fixed to a horizontal rail, which rains down on you as you lie on a table below. May also include a massage. Also known as affusion shower or rain shower.
Yin and Yang
Yin is the universal energy force whose characteristics are feminine: cold, dark, quiet, static and wet. Yang is masculine: warm, bright, dynamic and dry. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) true balance and health are achieved only when these two opposing forces are in balance.
Yoga
Ancient Hindu practice comprising focused deep breathing and stretching and toning the body, using various postures. The ultimate goal is to reach your full physical, mental and spiritual potential. Relaxes and improves circulation, flexibility and strength.
