Years ago I spent 4 years working in Granollers, La Garriga´s neighbouring town and only 15 minutes from Hotel Blancafort Spa Termal!! I had heard so many stories about the thermal waters in the area, their therapeutic benefits, the warm outdoor pools and yet I never had the opportunity to go and experience it for myself.
Well I have to say that at our recent SIS visit it certainly lived up to all of my expectations and more. From the moment we arrived the whole experience was fabulous. We received a warm welcome by friendly, and efficient staff, the rooms are beautifully decorated and despite the fact that it is a large hotel (156 rooms), you certainly don´t have a sense of this with the level of care and service you receive.
The whole thermal gallery really is spectacular. As we walked down the stairs, which for me was the first time, (there is also a lift), I was really taken aback as to how big it is. There are different areas, all immaculately clean and presented. The dramatic and beautiful Templarium, decorated as if you were in a Roman Baths, has 3 contrast pools (Cold, tepid and warm), Hydrojet Showers, Pediluve, Steam bath and Sauna. The Roman Baths circuit is reeaally relaxing! You spend several minutes in the tepid pool, before you move to the warm one and last you dip into the cold pool for a revitalising sensation! You repeat this circuit several times before relaxing on one of the warm stone loungers, where it is almost impossible not to nod off.
The Natatorium has a fairly large thermal indoor pool with jets for different parts of the body, jacuzzis & tissanerie. And then of course the private treatment rooms for those wanting to indulge in the extensive selection of treatments. You have the thermal water treatments (mud wraps, jet showers, hydrobaths), but you can also go for something a bit more exotic, an ayurveda massage or a hot stone massage, which are given in a beautifully decorated Oriental style treatment area.
I enjoyed the Vichy Shower massage. A Vichy Shower has seven adjustable shower jets to caress your body under an invigorating waterfall. The therapist adjusts the pattern, placement and temperature of the jets to achieve whole-body water massage treatment. When all 7 jets are on, there is about 50 litres of water a minute flowing over your body, which produces a sensation of floating on water! The effect of so much water movement on your skin is to increase the blood circulation, hydrate the skin and sooth the nervous system, enabling your body to balance and your muscles to relax, which of course it did!! Wow!
Oh and there´s more!! Taking the stairs or lift back up to ground level you have the outdoor pools, one of which is open all year around and has the natural thermal waters coming through at 36 Degrees. I have to say that is really something else, on a cold January day basking in a warm outdoor pool with the steam rising up through the rich gardens! Heaven!
Not only was the food delicious and exquisitely presented but the waiter was very patient and took the time to go through the menu, explaining the ingredients and where foods and been sourced.
I don´t know whether it was down to the thermal waters, the fine dining or the super comfy beds but I certainly slept like a baby!
It took me years to finally visit La Garriga with it´s stunning modernist buildings and to indulge in all that Hotel Blancafort Spa Thermal has to offer but I know for sure I will be going back!
When will you treat yourself?
