Thalassotherapy is the combined use of salt water, sea air and other substances extracted from the ocean (mud, algae and sand) in promoting health and wellbeing. Due to its unique composition, salt water is an authentic source of vital elements; it contains almost all of the trace elements necessary to the human body (magnesium, iodine, lithium, zinc, copper, selenium and calcium amongst others). Heating the water to 32ºc to 36ºc, which is almost body temperature, allows these elements to be more easily absorbed by the skin provoking muscular decompression and overall relaxation which helps to slowly loosen body stiffness, eliminate stress, insomnia and chronic fatigue. The absorption in particular of calcium and magnesium are both brilliant at helping you relax and unwind.

The Rooms

Situated on the Praia das Gaivotas cliff overlooking the sea, with 11-hectares of lush gardens, the Resort has 104 junior suites and 7 suites. We stayed at this resort for a few days to enjoy some relaxation. Staff always friendly, helpful, smiling. Excellent reception. Excellent breakfast buffet with a great variety on offer. Beach accessible in a few steps and really clean and nice. Spa very helpful and friendly reception girl, masseuses are also good. Premises, rooms, outdoor areas always clean and tidy. Highly recommended for those who are looking for a place to relax 100%. I recommend spending a few days visiting nearby cities that can be easily reached by car.

Pure luxury in an intimate setting. Service impeccable, gardens lush and well manicured, our room was huge and with a nice private balcony. The resort is well situated and its private beach is top notch. Buffet breakfast was excellent and comes included. We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and this hotel and its staff made this occasion extra special. Every staff member on site is helpful, kind and attentive. Restaurants excellent quality and fabulous ambiance. The views here are unparalleled. Well done on your commitment to sustainability!

  • Extensive Thalasso spa - using water pumped directly from the Atlantic Ocean
  • Selected one of the 5 best Thalasso Therapy Centres in the world

This not so much...

  • The rooms are not that close to the main spa area, therefore if you struggle with mobility this might be an issue (although they do have golf buggies to get you around)
  • The resort allows families, however the spa facilities are adult-only ensuring optimal relaxation.
  • Entrances to the Spa are not free and need to be booked in as a "treatment" or as part of a treatment
