What Does It Take to Start a New Life?

Do you ever wish that you could just hit the pause button on life and move on to the next chapter? Do you dream of starting over? Would you love to have a life that feels fresh and new?

Every day is a new beginning, but sometimes we try to find occasions to start a new life. Most people prefer the New Year period to make resolutions. There’s nothing wrong with that provided you stay motivated to achieve your goals. But in my opinion the best moment to make a new start is right now! Because if you keep putting something off, in the end it usually never happens…

You may also be forced to start a new life after a breakup, divorce or a failure. You may want to start afresh to change your life with the aim to have more success in life. Initially, it may seem like a daunting and difficult task. But starting a new life can be exciting and interesting if you’re determined and active. You only stand to gain and eventually you will make your life better!

How to Start Over in Life

If you’ve made up your mind to start a new life, then you’ve already taken the first step. Here are a few tips and more steps that will help you prepare yourself for a new life.

What you need is the right attitude, a controlled mind, self-belief and faith in life. So, how do you get all that?

  1. What and how do you want to change?

Determine your motivation. You need to think carefully to determine why you feel the need to start a new life and you have to decide how big a change you want to make. Sometimes you think you want a new life when what you really want is to resolve issues that have been bothering you for some time.

You have to set goals and replace the ¨I cant’s¨ with ¨I cans¨. The “I can’t” mentality can stop you in your tracks before you’ve even taken a step forward. You have put up walls to keep out potentially amazing things from manifesting in your reality, and told yourself you can’t achieve what you want before you even try. The universe works with the Law of Attraction, so whatever you think will show up in your life, regardless of if you want it or not.

If you don’t like what you see in your life, the primary culprit here is your mind. Change your thoughts, change your life!

2. You can’t change your past.

What’s done is done. Forgive yourself, and move on. We’re all human and discipline is a weak muscle that sometimes doesn’t hold up under pressure. If you have a daily goal and you miss it some days, don’t think over and over again how weak of a person you are.

Instead focus on the future. Every next decision is an opportunity to practice self-discipline and correct your mistakes. If you’ve eaten too much over lunch, say no to dinner or do extra training. If you’ve just figured out you haven´t been attentive enough to your partner, pick up your phone and send a loving message.

3. Always see change as a process

Starting all over and rebuilding your life from scratch is not an easy thing to do. It requires a lot of inner strength, courage, self-love, resilience, faith and confidence. And since most of these things take time to be developed, you need to learn to be patient and gentle with yourself.

If you, for example, would like to lose 5kg do not expect that to happen after one healthy meal. However, it is a first step towards that long term goal. It is therefore important that you always see changes in your life as a process.

You have to take it step by step, things will go better one day than the other. But slowly you will see that things are improving and that you are getting closer to your goal.

For example, suppose that you are quite stressed and that you are looking for more peace. Although you can start relaxing by, for example, reading a good book or meditating, you will not get rid of all your stress in one day. That takes time and patience, and sufficient dedication. If you continue to consciously relax you will find that after a few days you will feel a difference.

4. Trust your inner wisdom & walk the path of your soul (not of your ego)

Take the advice of Steve Jobs and don’t waste your life “living someone else’s life¨. Don’t let the noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice. Learn to listen to your inner voice and follow your own intuition.

Stop comparing yourself to others. Comparison does nothing for you, except make you doubt yourself and feel inferior to others. Everyone here is on their own journey, and no one is inherently better than anyone else.

Let go of the many limiting beliefs, excuses, ideas and expectations about how your entire life should unfold and just relax into life. Learn to be soft and flexible. Go with the flow of life and not against it.

Make a promise to yourself to make your life about creating and offering a lot of value, and not about acquiring a lot of money and having a lot of success. To let money and success come to you as a result of being true to yourself and your life path, and not to spend your life chasing money and success and forgetting completely about what makes you happy. There’s nothing wrong with having money and success, but if you spend your life chasing those things, you are not feeding your soul, but your ego.

5. Take Ownership

It is all too easy to move through life as a passive passenger. The good news is that you don’t have to give up anything in your life to regain control over it.

Take ownership over your life by taking control of a particular aspect of your life. It could be as simple as no longer being a public transport passenger and instead, using your own body’s physical power to get you to your destination. Knowing that you can depend on yourself is incredibly empowering!

6. Face Your Fears

It is amazing how many of our decisions are based on fear. We fail to take risks, avoid conversations, and miss opportunities because we are afraid of the outcomes.

Here’s the deal: taking risks, within reason, can change your life overnight. If you have had your eye on that attractive (wo)man at your local coffee shop, take a shot and ask them out for a drink. The worst that can happen to you is a slightly bruised ego. Even if they are already in a relationship or simply uninterested, your flattery may have made their day. Don’t go through life with too many regrets. Going back to that coffee shop after being turned down is just another opportunity to face your fears.

Throw away all fears, excuses and limitations. Live each day as if it were your last. Make the best of every moment. Take chances, make mistakes. Have no fear of failure. Live a life without regrets.

7. Challenge Comfort Zones

Do something that’s out of character for you. Think outside the box. Take an exotic dancing class or sign up for sky diving lessons. Go rock climbing or learn how to belly dance. Pick something that is exciting, gets your heart racing and tests your physical and mental capabilities.

If you are attempting to step away from a life of stagnation, you have to step out of your comfort zone.  Challenging your comfort zones empower you to see what you are capable of achieving when put to the test. It is understandable to want to relax in the comfort zone after working so hard to get there, but there comes a time when you have to level up.

Set your sights on the next attainable dream and go for it. If you’ve always wanted to run a marathon, set up a strenuous training schedule to get you there. Learn how to push through the pain and the mental blocks that have kept you from being your own champion.

Dig within yourself, figure out where to set your hard ceiling, and push towards reaching your goals to live your best life — you deserve it.

8. Remember, It’s Your Life

Often people think they need to make radical changes in their lives in order to see big results. However, sometimes just a shift in our thinking can provide a catalyst for the change we wish to see in our realities. After all, we become what we think, and we attract what we are, so we must utilize our own power if we want to start living a different life.

When looking at the big picture of what is your life, note what you dislike, make a plan to change it, and move forward with decisive action. You’ve only got one chance to live life on your terms. You have everything you need to achieve the level of success you hope to have in this life — you just have to reach out and grab it!

Each day is a new beginning, a new chance and a new opportunity for you to create something better, something new. To offer more value to the world around you, and to reveal more of yourself to those you love. Each day is a new life, each moment is a precious gift. So make the best of each day. Make the best of each moment.
