Thalasso Balance – Light cuisine from the sea!

Tuna for Thalasso DietThalassotherapy is the therapeutic use of the ocean, its climate, and marine products like algae, seaweed, and alluvial mud. The name comes from the Greek words thalassa (“the sea”) and therap (“treat”).

The principle behind thalassotherapy is that repeated exposure to sea air and immersion in warm seawater, mud, clay, and protein-rich algae helps restore the body’s natural chemical balance. Seawater and human plasma are very similar. When immersed in warm seawater the body absorbs the minerals it needs through the skin.

Océano Health Hotel & Medical Spa is located in the North of Tenerife right at the coast of the Atlantic ocean. The perfect location for a true Thalasso therapy program, because the water from the Atlantic has a salt level of about 3,54%, which makes its healing power very intense. In only little time energy will be replenished and your metabolism stimulated.

And now at Océano they have developed a new type of menu to complement their Thalasso therapy programs, which is the Thalasso Balance menu. The Thalasso Balance full board is designed for those who pay attention to a healthy and balanced diet during their holiday and who want to return with less instead of more kilos on the scales!

The heart-healthy Thalasso diet is a healthy low-carb eating plan based on ingredients from the sea, combines with typical foods and recipes of Mediterranean-style cooking. Freshly and carefully prepared products, preferably locally sourced are the basis of the Thalasso Balance cuisine. The menu naturally contains lots of fresh fish or seafood, vegetables and seaweed in balanced combinations. For example Salmon wrapped in nori algae, basmati rice and ratatouille (mixed vegetables), Gilthead bream, nori algae, zucchini, cherry tomatoes and basil or also very nice Red tuna tataki with sesame, cucumber and vinaigrette.

The diet is a low-carb diet around 1500c a day, which makes it a perfect light diet to complement the Thalasso treatment program. The Medical team at Océano recommends the Thalasso diet as an eating plan that can help to promote health and prevent diseases.
